Namritha Nori is an Italian-Indian singer-songwriter who divides her time between Padua and Istanbul. Her music is the result of a search for her multiple roots, from India to Italy via the Middle East, bringing to the stage a fusion of cultures and musical infuences that belong to her through the places where she has lived and studied, from the Arab world, Sephardic, to the Anatolia of her Istanbul, up to Western classical music. From her classical training as opera singer at the C. Pollini Conservatory of Padova to her explorations of Sephardic music with her band Mi Linda Dama, Namritha's journey is a testament to her various roots. Italian of Indian descent, she traveled and lived in Beirut to study classical Arabic music, to Istanbul for Anatolian folk music, and to her motherland for Dhrupad and Hindustani music. Those experiences have only added to the rich tapestry of her sound.
"Traces & Roots" (2024), her new album and project, marks a new milestone in Namritha Nori's career and expresses her artistic vision, blending traditional Middle Eastern and modern Western themes with arrangements that span from Anatolian styles to ethnojazz. The album features original songs, with music and lyrics written by her in various languages (Spanish, French, Venetian dialect, Greek, and Arabic). Through a unique Arab-Mediterranean cantillation, Namritha creates a dialogue between her diverse cultural heritages.
The project is also available as a live performance.
